My favorite resort in the Durango area is Purgatory. Wolf creek gets a good rep but the few times I’ve skied there, I was disappointed. The runs were short and the resort didn’t live up to the hype.
If you are trying to decide where to ski in Southwest Colorado I’d choose Purgatory!
Telluride is nearby as well. Telluride is so expensive it’s insulting. Purgatory is a budget friendly resort with plenty of terrain great for those who don’t ski that much. On a good snow year, the terrain is amazing for good skiers too.
Ski Southwest Colorado instead of the front range resorts
Purgatory is far less crowded than Summit County, or Grand County, and the town of Durango, Colorado can carry an awesome vibe. The closest airport is DRO (extremely expensive and almost not worth mentioning) That’s what makes Durango a fun road trip town.
If you are planning a trip to Durango and it looks too expensive choose a different town!
